MIDI - Musical Instrument Digital Interface.

Invented in 1983 MIDI is a way of connecting digital instruments or effects units in order to control them all from one source, usually sequencing software or Controller Keyboard.

These control messages can be stored in a .mid file and be played on other midi instruments.
